5th July marks the significant ceremony of Batrisyia's "cukur rambut" a ceremony where a few strands of the child's hair is removed and then given some sweetener to taste. However, it is always advised to have the baby's hair all removed. The sweetener on another hand, symbolises sweetness of life.
The whole ceremony took place at Assyafaah mosque with 11 babies waiting for their turn to be shaved. Batrisyia surprisingly was called up first as she was supposed to be the youngest among the rest. The entire ceremony just took about half an hour. It was a simple yet memorable ceremony for us.
For interested parents who would like to know more about such majlis tahnik, you can always give any mosque's a call and enquire if they perform such ceremonies. Different mosques have them done is slightly different way. For Assyafaah, registration was$50 with everything else included.
