I have been having problems sleeping at night these days. It is a combination of the heavy tummy, the itch everywhere, the frequent visits to the bathroom...etc. Basically, just can't sleep. So, is pregnancy that tough? Well, I think it varies from individual to individual. Not everyone experience the same thing and even then, each pregnancy is different by itself. How tough can a pregnancy get? Well, the things that we dread encoutering when pregnant will be like, the morning sickness, the heartburn, headaches, vaginal infection, gestational diabetes, and the list can go on... and all this is on top of extra weight that you need to carry.
So what's my point here? Well, I guess I was just sore from the incident the other day. I was getting up on a bus with Izzul in my arms. and carrying a huge vanguard sheet to pass to a colleague of mine. So I saw there was one empty seat left and as I was balancing myself putting Izzul's feet down on the bus floor, getting ready occupy that seat, then came this healthy, young, self-centred, selfish, inconsiderate passenger sat oblivious to our presence. I wanted to fight for the seat but it was only 2 stops away and I was thinking, i'll topple if I don't grab a pole asap.
But what surprised me most was that these people looking up at me from their seats, pitifully, yet didn't give up their seat. I was used to not being given a seat while I was pregnant with Izzul. I was used to that. But now, I am with a child, who had only started to walk a few months back, and myself 9 months pregnant. More than angry, I was just plain sad. I really wanted to cry as I looked down at Izzul who was, thankfully, enjoying his bus ride, trying so hard to grab the pole not within his reach. We live in an UN-gracious society. Maybe not all Singaporeans are inconsiderate, but the society itself. In the bus, there were people from different parts of the world. There's the indonesian maid, the filipino worker, the bangladeshi worker and it does not matter because all man for himself right?
It was the longest 2 bus stops for me and Izzul. So, for me to support the "go green and go public" campaign, well, not for me. Not in this lifetime.
