I survive my uni days with 3 cups of coffee daily. In fact, I could live with just snacks and a cup of coffee for each meal. It's easy and quick.
Since I got pregnant, nobody actually said anything about me and my coffee until the other day in class when I brought in Nescafe can into the class. "Won't that affect your baby?"
Although I knew and very certain of the answer (because I did thorough research on it before indulging), the question somehow just makes me feel quesy.
Anyhow, here are some facts you can share to back yourself up:
Maximum intake of caffeine/day>300mg of caffeine
That is about 3 mugs of instant coffee, 3 cups of brewed coffee, 6 cups of tea, 8 cans of regular cola, or 8 standard bars of chocolate.
So what are the dangers if you exceed?
Your baby may have low birth weight, or even cause a miscarriage if you are in the earlier months.
Caffeine also affects the way the body absorbs iron, which is very important for baby's development
Not advocating but just saying that coffee junkies like me don't have to worry about having to go cold turkey for 9 months... :)
